Daybreak Abattoirs The purpose of a poultry abattoir is to process the feathered live bird into various processed packages suitable for purchase and end consumer requirements. These requirements differ from individually quick frozen (IQF) portions through to fresh whole birds and Daybreak abattoirs have the capacity to process all the consumer requirements.
Daybreak has two poultry processing abattoirs. One of the abattoirs is located at Sundra with a current capacity of 800 000 birds per week processed. The second Abattoir is located at Delmas with a current capacity of 800 000 birds per week processed. The plant at Sundra is a dedicated Frozen and IQF (Individually Quick Frozen portions) abattoir. The Delmas plant has the flexibility to manufacture both Fresh and Frozen products as well as IQF. The ability to process both is possible via 2 separate specialised sectors within the abattoir after the “chilling process”.
