Feedmill

Feedmill

Located in Kinross (Mpumalanga), the Feedmill Factory was built in 1973 and was originally designed to manufacture 10 000 tons of feed per month. The plant has been upgraded and currently, Kinross supplies the required feed for approximately 9 million chicks across over 44 broiler farms.

Raw material storage

  • Most of our raw materials are stored in the Kinross Afgri Silo. Reclamation is via an interlinked transfer system to the factory bins.
  • We have a total of ± 11 000 ton storage capacity available at the Silo plant which includes Maize, Soya Oil Cake and Sunflower Oil Cake.
  • The rest of the Macro and Micro Raw Materials are stored in bags on-site and in bins allocated in the factory.
  • Raw Materials are continuously replenished as needed, ensuring that the required Raw Materials, for manufacture, according to the production plan, are available.

Production

Our plant is fully automated, by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) working hand in hand with other systems ensuring that the feed is manufactured in accordance with required formulas and laid down specifications.

Distribution

Delivery of the feed to the farms is done by our own fleet and contractor vehicles. The feed is delivered as per the daily delivery schedule. Our current YTD tons delivered is 115 524 tons with an average of 16 503 tons per month. Our total deliveries to our own farms and contract growers is 4 135 per year with an average of 591 deliveries per month.

Production

  • Kinross Laboratory is equipped with a Perten and Foss NIR Instruments (Near Infra Red). They are used to ensure that all incoming raw materials and outgoing feed products are within the laid down specifications.
  • Urease testing is done on soya oil cake and all loads are tested on arrival before offloading can commence.
  • Various in-line checks ensure that the product manufactured meets the specifications for the final product and this minimizes the presence of 'out of spec' products ending up in the final product bins, or on the farms.
  • A final check is done on all loads when the trucks are loaded according to the particular product specification, ensuring product quality.
Samples are send to external laboratories to verify that our products comply to all industry and regulatory requirements.
